New paintings in 2023
I have recently created a number of new acrylic paintings on canvas and I continue to develop my fine art production. I started seriously painting in my style in 2018 and enjoyed it since then. However, the process was not straightforward – I tested gouache to oils and other dry or wet art techniques. This year I had a client who said that he would like to buy some small pictures on canvas – therefore I created a series of smaller paintings with differently coloured rectangulars.
Another painting is called Garden and it was actually inspired by flowers in the garden in the backyard of our house in Bratislava (Vrakuna district). I took a few photos of the flowers and plants and started with a sketch on paper. The next step was to create an engaging, mostly green, background for the painting. When this layer of acrylic paint had dried, I took Molotow’s black acrylic marker and created a decorative drawing over it.
I also created Woman in a Hat, a painting on fresh yellow background with a very poster-like aesthetics. I was inspired by a fashion photo book I acquired somewhere. Here, the scene is very simple and it reminds Egyptian wall paintings depicted in a modern and contemporary way.
The last painting of this short write-up will be a picture called Jellyfish. I was inspired by the natural life underwater and the bright colours I saw in photos of real jellyfish. I created the colourful background first and then decided to cover the layers again with blue colour to add a bit of a watery mood.
