Not difficult rose flower sketch

Rose Drawings:

It can be difficult how to draw rose flowers. Oh, there I was. When I can’t seem to get it right with my painting, I’m frustrated. With this tutorial, you will feel more confident with your drawing skills, the anxiety will melt away and you will learn the joy of playing again!

I’ll take you through the basics, then the more complicated below:

Drawings of Rose for beginners (with video instructions for drawing roses)

Rose Fine Art Paintings (with advanced video instructions for drawing roses)

Imagine finishing a perfect little piece of art for a friend that you can include in a card. Even get your children involved! I really believe you’re going to appreciate these directions.

A simple rose sketch that children and beginners alike would love to try!

Out of trying to draw roses, take the tension out. With all those petals, they might look truly complicated, but we’re going to start with Simple!

You’ll enjoy studying and teaching your children how to make something special out of Grandma’s home!

Just follow along, and step by step, I’m going to take you. There are not many resources needed.

A kneaded eraser deals with the most modern materials. A regular eraser is going to work, you just need to be a little more vigilant and a little bit more careful

Pencils of HB, 2B and 4B.

Oh, and paper, of course.

Stage 1. I typically start with a circle, and then a smaller circle close to the top of the first one. This is just to give a few borders to your rose drawing.

The 2nd stage. In the center of the rose, beginning from the center and working your way out, lay a few tiny petals next to each foot. In general, the petal shape is the same throughout, except they get bigger as they head for the flower.

Phase Three. The petals wrap around the center themselves, so as you put in each petal, follow that general pattern.

Your petals don’t necessarily have to look like mine. If you wish, you can keep them more rounded instead of the “elf ear” shape I have on them.
For the look and feel of your rose, it’s just a matter of preference.
In the floral shops, the elf ear petal resembles the hybrid tea roses I see. It will resemble a more old-fashioned rose if you go with a rounded petal.

Step 4. Go back with a darker pencil and go over the lines once the initial drawing is in position. A darker, thicker line will also be provided by pressing a little harder.
You are finished with that simple rose at this point. It can, if you wish, be the basis of a more realistic work of art. Click here to see a complete demonstration of a rose, beginning as a drawing, and ending with a painting.

And don’t forget about pencils. You can draw an initial rose, copy a photo from your computer, and have a coloring party with a crayon. Or even use some watercolor, washable markers, and create a fake tattoo to trace the image to the skin!

Let me recommend another artist friend of mine who has an instruction page on just this subject if you decide to take this drawing to the next step.

Rose drawings, from simple to fine art quality.

Now, are you prepared for a more serious rose drawing?

I am using an HB, 2B, 4B pencil and two more items in this demonstration.

A stump of paper and

A simple eraser with a knead.

I have a painting in front of me, but out of camera view, which was done using a drawing similar to this one. At the end of the video, I demonstrate it.

I check the measurements with a tool once I’m satisfied with my outline drawing. It’s called a proportional divider and it’s a way to check your drawing quickly and accurately.

I’m pleased with my initial sketch, so I’m going to clean up all my lines and start doing a bit of shading. At this stage, I am using a 2b pencil.

So, with a 4b pencil, the process continues now, darkening the areas that need more shading. Sometimes there is cross hatching, sometimes there are small circles. To get a darker line, press a bit harder.

I begin using my paper stump to start softening and blending the shaded areas after going over the entire piece with my darkest pencil. If I go too far into the white area, I don’t worry, because I know I have another secret weapon to fix it.

My eraser kneaded! And boy, I needed it and I kneaded it! You pitch and shape or mold the rubber into a point once it’s nice and soft. To remove the graphite nicely and bring back the white of the paper, you can then press it into the region. I even shaped it like a wedge, and I stroked areas I wanted to lighten up, but not entirely. The video demonstrates it better.

I’m doing a bit of final cleaning with the normal eraser above. This is still regarded as a simple sketch to me, but it looks pretty good. To get some really fine details like, dew drops, veins in the petals, a bug or two on the leaves, etc., the next step would use a tougher, fine point pencil. But that’s for another lesson.

It wasn’t easy! Why don’t these drawing skills keep increasing? Here, below the video, check out this great training. I took it, and my art really improved with the exercises. It also improved my painting!

Rose Pencil Drawings

You can produce your own beautiful rose pencil drawings just by quickly testing your drawing skills.

Roses are more complex than most flowers but still, that’s no excuse for not trying to draw one! Just make an attempt to copy/sketch an easy black and white rose drawing – you’ll probably see results you never even thought possible.

In the outline below, I have purposely omitted the center otherwise it becomes too complicated for copying.

Rose Outline

I found it easier to draw the outside edge when I first attempted to do this outline of a hybrid tea rose. I placed small marks to indicate the height and width which helped to keep it to a reasonable size.

When you decide to create a drawing of a rose, start by looking at each petal individually to avoid being overwhelmed by the overall picture. The whole concept of drawing is similar to setting goals where it’s easier to set daily tasks rather than becoming overwhelmed by what you need to accomplish in a month. So, one petal is equivalent to a daily goal, it’s breaking the big picture into bite-sized pieces.

Always add effects and detail last – after you are satisfied with a good outline.

Find good reference pictures that look to you like they’re easy to copy and that way, you’re sure to always enjoy drawing.

About The Rose

Roses are among the most popular of all flowers and they are a symbol of fragrance and beauty.

Rose Drawing

The most popular garden roses are hybrids.

A “hybrid” means they are crossbred from two different varieties.

Many have been bred from the wild sweet-briar and the dog rose.

Roses grow in many parts of the world and they now flower for many months.

They do well in temperate and mild climates.

Attar is an oil from rose petals and it’s been used for centuries to make perfumes.

Some plants of the rose family have regular flowers with only five petals.

I really like this rose pencil drawing created by my Mum but I think I ruined it by making the outside darker, sorry Mum!.
