How to sketch a pumpkin patch

In this one time class students will create a realistic fall pumpkin patch landscape. I will lead students step by step in drawing our pumpkin farm, and they will be introduced to perspective and how artists make things look near and far in an artwork. As students work, I will also give them opportunities to add their own unique details to their pictures and express their creative vision. Learning Goals

-Students will draw and paint a pumpkin patch that shows near and far perspective. -Students will be able to use introductory watercolor techniques to add color and personality to their artwork.

Teacher Expertise

I have taught elementary art for over 16 years and each of my lessons is developed thoughtfully and practiced ahead of time, keeping in mind student skill level and interests. I am passionate about helping young artists find their unique artistic voices and therefore balance guided drawing with creative expression in this lesson. I provide positive encouragement to students throughout our class time and hope they enjoy this project as much as I do.

Students may wish to continue adding finishing touches after class time had ended.

Supply List

Please have the following supplies ready for our class: - 9x12 Thicker white paper or watercolor paper (80lb weight or higher; I like Canson (100510941) XL Series Watercolor Pad, 9" x 12", Fold-Over Cover, 30 Sheets. A thick construction paper or card stock should be ok as well.) - Pencil with eraser - Black permanent Sharpie marker (must be a permanent marker) - Crayons - Watercolor set (Prang or Crayola recommended) - Watercolor brush - Container with water (a container with a wider base or a bowl is less likely to spill) - Paper towels **You may also want a piece of poster board or large paper to cover the work area.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Time Commitment

50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class .

Step 2.

In step two all you have to do is draw the beginning shape of the dead spooky tree. Once the shape has been drawn you can then add some bark swirls and such.

Step 3.

Finish drawing out the rest of the tree and then draw the face on the front of the trunk as you see here. Add the detailing tree lines and then draw the arch for the moon.

Step 4.

Now start sketching out the actual shape and texture for the pumpkins in the patch and then draw the leaves that are sticking from the tops. Be sure to draw your pumpkins to be all different sizes and shapes.
