What color suits violet purple?

Purple and white
The combination of purple and white always works and is a classic combination for spring. However, when these two colours are solely combined, things can get boring quickly – so spice up this combination with a few flashy pieces, for example, in red, turquoise or yellow.

We love the energy of the powerful trending shade of purple, which stands for curiosity, breaking free, and a new vision of life. Purple dresses exude a magic all their own, whether it is pastel lilac or vibrant purple. For the 2023 spring and summer season, Pantone is presenting two very different shades of purple: “Spring Crocus” is a rich, classic shade of purple that particularly works with monochrome looks and can be found in many current trouser styles. “Beetroot Purple”, on the other hand, is a vital fuchsia shade with a strong pink hue that is also all the rage in cosmetics these days. The regal colour is just the thing for you? Then discover all the purple dresses in Pantone’s latest violet shades here.

Dressed in purple – discover dresses in the fashionable colour of the season.

Crimson, violet, lavender, or lilac – the colour purple has countless nuances and is something very special: as a mixed red and blue colour, purple combines the best of both worlds and can therefore sometimes appear warm and sometimes cool. For this reason, and because this shade was difficult to obtain and produce, violet was regarded as an extremely mystical and mysterious colour from antiquity through the Middle Ages and into modern times.

The violet shade was obtained from purple snails – a very elaborate and expensive process, which is why the colour crimson, or violet, was reserved for kings and priests until well into the Middle Ages. In the middle of the 20th century, purple became the colour of the women’s movement and is still one of the most exciting colours in the fashion world. Various shades of purple have been voted Pantone colour of the year several times in recent years: in 2018, the colour “Ultra Violet” was in high demand and in 2022, the pastel lavender tone “Very Peri” is colour of the year.

You can find out here why violet dresses are guaranteed to never go out of fashion and why everyone should have a purple dress in their wardrobe.

Purple – whom does it suit?

Purple is a very versatile colour that comes in countless nuances. With this wide range, there is definitely a purple tone for every type. Depending on the mixing ratio, purple has a blue, i.e., rather cool undertone, or becomes more pink with more red. Especially the so-called winter types, i.e., people with very light or very dark skin and black or brunette hair benefit from strong jewel shades such as rich violet or purple. If you have a rather warm and skin tone and blonde hair and are therefore more of the spring type, pastel nuances such as lilac or lavender will suit you excellently. Summer types, i.e., women with light hair, blue or green eyes and rosy skin, should use bluish-purple tones, while autumn types with their warm skin tone and reddish shimmering hair should preferably use strong and rather reddish-brown violet tones such as aubergine.

Because purple and violet are classic mixed colours, these nuances can be combined very well. Trendy colour blocking with violet always works and suits practically everyone. The complementary colour of purple is strong yellow – these two tones are exactly opposite of each other on the colour spectrum and contrast each other most. Violet in combination with different shades of yellow looks great. But also violet and orange or purple and red contrast wonderfully, just as purple colour blocking works with all other strong colours such as green, blue, and pink – but here the contrasting effect is somewhat less. There is no rule of thumb for colour blocking with violet dresses; wear what pleases you!

Combine pastel lavender-coloured dresses and tops with delicate turquoise or powdery light blue, or rely on the expressive combination of strong aubergine and bright lemon yellow!
