Mardi Gras makeup is all about PURPLE, GREEN & GOLD

by Jackie Merlau January 5, 2017, 3:10 pm 0 Comments

Since 1872, Mardi Gras has been crowned with a purple, green and gold color palette, and each one has significance: purple represents justice, green represents faith, and gold represents power. From festive parades to the extravagant balls, this is an engaging time to showcase these colors and don plenty of glitter.

PURPLE

This color is complementary to both green and gold, so don’t be afraid to mix it up in multiple ways! If you want to make a subtle statement, use purple eyeliner and create a soft wing on your top lid or smudge a soft bit of purple on your lower lash line. Purple also creates the best smoky eye for various occasions. If you want to add a bit more glam, put down the brown and choose purple! Don’t be afraid to grab red as a lip color as it is very complementary to purples.

Now is a great time to throw a curveball in your makeup routine! Not only is green a fitting color for the season, it has also been chosen as the Pantone color of the year according to pantone.com. Just like purple, you can grab green eyeliner and use it in various ways. However, a soft wash of green shadow all over the lid and slightly buffed into the crease can be very gorgeous and bright. Green on the eyes will pair nicely with purple on the lips!

GOLD

Gold is always trending! This is a color that will pair well with almost anything, but specifically purple and green. Try popping a gold right on the center of your lid, either paired with the purple smoky eye or on top of the wash of green. I even love using iridescent gold in the inner corner of the eye. This technique will instantly brighten your eyes!
