Watercolor Painting Workshop (Aspen Trees in Winter)
This class is designed for students (beginner to intermediate) who want to explore the unique principles of watercolor: transparency, speed, & spontaneity. Workshop will emphasize and demonstrate brush work, color mixing, wash techniques, value patterns, design layout, and composition. Students will create an 8”x10” painting. All art supplies will be provided by instructor but students must bring a 16”x20” hard-board or foam board to use as a painting support surface. Must be Age 16+ and class is limited to 8 students.

Supplies will be provided – disposable plate pallet, watercolor paper, paint, brushes, plastic cup, tissue, pencil, eraser, tape. Ink pen, white gouache. Scrap paper to practice. Students will paint an 8 x 10 painted image in 11×14 mat.
*NOTE: Students will need to bring a 16”x20” hard-board or foam board painting support surface.

About this artwork: Classification, Techniques & Styles
Watercolor is a painting in which gum arabic binds transparent pigments revealing the support of the painting. The gouache, of identical composition, is opaque. A watercolor is a water-based painting on paper. We rarely speak of a painting for a work painted in watercolor. Watercolor paintings are considered to be a unique way to creatively represent dreams, illusions, emotions and luminous feelings using water soluble pigments. However, painting with watercolors can be difficult. It’s a difficult medium to master, in large part because it can be ruthless and unpredictable. Mistakes are difficult to correct and its fluid nature makes it difficult to control. Yet it is these very qualities that give the medium its undeniable charm.
Painting is an art form of painting on a surface by aesthetically applying colored fluids. Painters represent a very personal expression on supports such as paper, rock, canvas, wood, bark, glass, concrete and many other substrates. Work of representation or invention, painting can be naturalistic and figurative, or abstract. It can have narrative, descriptive, symbolic, spiritual, or philosophical content.

Art class topics and projects may include acrylic painting, 3-D sculpture, cartooning, print making, drawing basics, watercolor, mixed media, pottery, painting bisqueware and more!
Our new studio at 100 N. White Mountain Rd., Suite 101, Show Low, AZ 85901 is a comfortable, relaxed work space to encourage creativity, socializing, learning, and the trying of new techniques. Each student will take home their masterpiece that very day! Our teachers are trained and qualified to teach the subject matter and help your child have a positive experience to kick-start a growing or new-found passion!
