Step 3:
To create a flat wash take your flat brush and dip it into your dark blue paint (ultramarine + burnt sienna). Paint in an even layer starting at the bottom working a third of the way up. Now, rinse off your brush in one glass of water, then dip into clean water to make sure there is no leftover paint on your brush. Dab off any access water on your paper towel.
Next, paint in your cadmium yellow, leaving a small line of white between the yellow and the blue paint. Clean your brush off and with your clean et brush apply water over the white line between the yellow and blue paint to blend the two together without creating green.
About halfway up your paper switch from cadmium yellow to peach (burnt sienna + cadmium yellow + crimson). This time apply your peach color right onto the yellow paint, you want these two colors to bleed together. Apply the peach until there is about a fourth of your page left.
Clean your brush off like we did before, the dip your flat brush into your dark blue paint (burnt sienna + ultramarine). Fill in the rest of your page with your dark blue paint. While your paint is still wet grab your round brush, dip it into your peach paint (burnt sienna + cadmium yellow + crimson), and paint in scattered lines on either side of the top blue section of the painting.
Let this layer dry completely before moving on.
Step 4:
Now we are going to darken the top part of our sunset. In your pallet mix a darker shade of blue and peach. To make your watercolor paint darker add more paint to your pallet than water. We are going to use the same mixtures we used before to make the paint in our pallet more vibrant. (Burnt sienna + cadmium yellow + crimson = peach). (Ultramarine + burnt sienna = dark blue).
The next step is to take your flat brush, dip it into clean water, and apply an even layer of water over the entire painting. This is going to help the next layer blend nicely into the first layer. While your painting is wet apply the peach paint over your first layer of peach paint. You should notice that your new coat is more vibrant. Next, paint in dark blue paint over the first blue layer.
Let this step completely dry before moving on to step 5.
Step 5:
How to paint mountains? Don’t worry it is very easy! Our first mountain layer is going to be our lightest mountain. Use the dark blue mixture you already have in your pallet and start painting in your mountain about halfway up your painting. Angle your brush upward until you reach the first peek, then angle downwards. Create four mountain peaks at different height levels. Fill in the rest of the lower part of the painting with the dark blue paint.
Wait for this layer to dry completely before moving on.
Step 6:
Create a darker blue paint by adding in more ultramarine and burnt sienna to your pallet. Dip your brush in your paint the begin painting upward starting at a fourth of the way down from your halfway point. Create four peeks across your page. Fill in the rest of the bottom of your painting with the dark blue paint.
Wait for this layer to dry completely.
Step 7:
Next, we are going to darken our blue paint again the same way we did in prevoius steps. Once your paint color is where you want it, begin painting starting at another fourth of the way down from your last mountain layer. Create three mountain peeks as we did in steps earlier. Apply the dark blue paint the rest of the way down the page.
Wait for this layer to completely dry before moving on.
Step 8:
This step will be our last and darkest layer. We are going to do that by adding a touch of black paint to our dark blue mixture (black + ultramarine + burnt sienna). Test out your paint color on a scratch piece of paper to make sure your paint still has a blue tint. Once your paint is ready, begin painting angling upward creating a wide hill, then angle downward. Create a small bump, then angle upward to create the last mountain peak.
