Valentine Crafts for Adults Idea #1: Petal and Vase Centerpiece

For this craft, you’ll need a glass vase and some flower petals. (Side note: you can find both of these items here on this site.)

  1. How to make it: Fill your glass with water, add in a few of your favorite flowers, then arrange the petals around them. (If you don’t have any flower arranging skills, just throw them on top.)
  2. Time: 10-15 minutes.
  3. Cost: $5-$10 for your vase, $3-$15 for artificial flower petals.

Last but not least, gift your creation to your valentine or display it somewhere in your own home as a Valentine’s Day gift to yourself!

DIY Valentine Crafts for Adults Idea #2: String Art

String art is the perfect Valentine craft for any adult. This type of art is made from pieces of string, which are tied together in a design that you determine. The string can be any color or pattern, but it’s best to use a red or pink thread if you’re trying to create something that evokes feelings of love and romance.

String art is easy to make; you’ll only need a ruler, scissors, needle and some string! Cut the string into small pieces (about 2 inches long), then place them on your canvas however you prefer. Once they’re arranged in the shape of your choice, tie them all together at the back with another piece of thread (a darker color than what was used previously).

You can make things even easier on yourself by grabbing one of the string art kits available here. It has all of the materials you need to create your Valentine’s Day masterpiece!

You now have an adorable piece of wall decor that looks like it took hours upon hours to create, rather than a few mere moments of your time!

Painted Heart Valentine’s Craft for Kids

Remember when I showed you my cute hutch decorated for Valentines? Well I mentioned that my kids did the art work at the top. I thought I’d show you how in case you wanted to make something similar. This would be a fun thing to do for a decoration, with a class or preschool group, or to make a big card to send to grandma.

What you’ll need:
Heavy card stock or cardboard
Washi tape or painter’s tape
Paint (we used acrylic but tempra or water color on white paper would probably work well too)
Paint brushes
Paper plates

The color of the cardboard or cardstock will be the color of the heart or design in the end, so choose one you like. Create a design in the center of the cardboard using the tape. We did a heart, heart with stripes, and a basic L(heart)VE. Squirt some paint onto the paper plate, hand the kids the brushes and let them do to town painting the card board, even painting over and on top of the tape. I wanted certain colors (white, red, pinks) so those were the only paints I made available and that works well when creating art you want to display. Too many colors end up mixing into brown with little kids.

While the paint is still tacky, pull the tape carefully off the card stock. If you let the paint dry it will peel up really easily with the tape. Let the art dry before adding embellishments (every kid loves glitter), writing, or other details.

Pretty easy huh!

Adults: Using masking tape or painters tape, tape the word “love” onto the canvas. (We used cursive here, but Roman letters are a little easier.) Let your child finger paint on top of the tape and over the entire canvas.
