I had my house built 22 years ago, and never much thought that it would be aging right along with me. Home this summer, like so many others due to COVID, the house just didn’t look right to me. Pushing on a clapboard, then another and then another, it soon became apparent that I had a rot problem, very likely also in areas I didn’t have ladders to reach. My neighbor had had a good experience with 4 Seasons Painting, and so I called Dean McAllister who came over promptly to review the situation. Soon thereafter, he returned with Luke and Shane, and the three of them spent the better part of a month putting my tall house with its many odd angles right top to bottom: fixing the substructure and splicing in new clapboards and trim along with salvaging several odd sized windows that would have been very expensive to replace. They also ended up painting much of the house. When they finished, my house now rock solid looked better than new. My wife and I could hardly believe it, and all at a price less than I imagined possible. I cannot recommend Dean and his team enough.
Cleaning the exterior of a house before you do anything is an absolute must – every home has some amount of dirt or mildew. A light cleaning solution is applied before pressure washing to help remove any areas of loose paint or stain, which can now be sanded to create a smooth canvas. The washing also helps expose any rotten wood, which will be replaced. Benjamin Moore’s alkyd primer penetrates the bare wood and creates superior adhesion for paint. Using an oil based primer is integral for proper exterior paint adhesion. Washing, scraping, sanding and primer all help to create a long-lasting, smooth base for the final coat.
