ST Patrick’s Day is the perfect excuse for a right old knees up.
This year the day of the Irish patron saint is on Saturday, March 17, so here is how you can glam/green up for the celebrations.
St Patrick’s Day face painting ideas
Nothing says patriotism like the Irish flag.
This simple face painting motif is for those who are artistically challenged.
Start with two white lines down the face and then colour each third in green, white and orange from left to right – don’t get those colours the wrong way round.
An interesting evolution to that idea is the on-trend flag beard which has seen furry-faced blokes colour their facial hair to match the flag.
For those who want to get a bit more creative – why not try a shamrock?
You can draw a pretty motif with the green leaves or just go for one big one on the side of your face.
Some people have even draw a traditional green leprechaun’s hat on their foreheads.
While others have gone for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

This is another St. Patrick’s Day craft for preschoolers or toddlers. Draw a rainbow on paper; Allison McDonald at No Time for Flash Cards suggests adding squiggles of color as a guide for little ones. Then squirt some glue along the rainbow’s arches and help your kid attach multi-colored mini marshmallows to it. Warning: They may sneakily eat a few marshmallows as they’re crafting!
Leprechaun Handprint
To make this St. Patrick’s Day craft for kids, you’ll need to download the leprechaun template from Simple Everyday Mom. Assemble the leprechaun’s face using the template, then trace your little one’s hand on a piece of orange paper. They can cut out the handprint to use as the leprechaun’s head; the fingers double as a shaggy beard! A buckled hat rounds out the project.
Swinging Shamrocks
To make swinging shamrocks, follow these instructions:
- Cut four half-inch rings from a flattened cardboard tube, then cut through one of the folds on each ring.
- For three of the rings, bend and glue the two ends to form a heart-shaped leaf.
- Fold the fourth ring into a triangular stem and glue the ends together.
- Glue the stem between two leaves, then glue on the third.
- Paint the shamrock green.
- When it’s dry, hang it with fishing line or string.
These would look great in front of a window or over your child’s bed.
