Paper spray painting ideas for kids

One of the easiest spray-painting techniques for kids is painting with spray bottles. It is a fun and hassle-free way to acquaint the children with the basics. All you need is a bottle of child-friendly spray paint, a kids’ spray bottle, and a few blank sheets. Allow your child to go wild and spray the colors as per their fancy. You can then guide them on how to apply the right pressure on the spray nozzle to get different effects and even create basic shapes.

2. Nature spray painting

How about indulging your children in some DIY nature spray painting art for kids that can be turned into beautiful posters? Using the spray bottle technique mentioned above, kids can create amazing art forms using material from nature. Gather fallen leaves and flowers of different shapes and sizes from your backyard, and place them over a white sheet. Using various colors of paint, spray over the leaves to cover the entire surface of the paper. Once done, carefully flip the leaves, and voila, your little one’s masterpiece is ready!

3. Bottle spray painting

Another easy spray paint art idea for kids is to paint on old or discarded bottles that can be great for decorations as well. While it is ideal to use water-based paint or washable paint, this activity is best done using acrylic paint. Firstly, coat the bottle with a base paint of your choice. Then, spray over it using a spray bottle. Make sure the spray paint is in a contrasting hue for better effect. You can use the final art form as a décor piece or even as a pencil holder. You may also replace bottles with outdoor toys or a junked coffee table for a more immersive DIY project.

4. Toothbrush spray painting

Learning to spray paint shouldn’t feel arduous for kids. You can teach them simple spray paint art lessons for kids using a toothbrush. A toothbrush works better than a paintbrush in these types of paintings. Needless to say, you will need a toothbrush (used ones are okay too), different colors of paint, and a surface to create your art. Begin by dipping your toothbrush in water-based paint. Now, place your thumb against the bristles of the toothbrush and stroke gently by holding it above the art surface or sheet. Create multiple patterns and abstracts and play with colors of your choice.

5. Vegetable spray painting

Do you fancy teaching your kids about vegetables while painting? One of the easiest spray paint craft projects for kids is painting with vegetable cut-outs. Get your child to spray over the cut-outs using a toothbrush. Stamp the cut-outs on a sheet of paper. Once done, label the vegetables by their names, and use it as a chart for further learning.

6. Floral spray painting

Spray art for kids becomes more fun when it involves floral and colorful designs! Similar to the spray-painting technique for kids used above, you can use flowers of different shapes and sizes to paint with. Using kid-safe spray paint or a toothbrush and water-based paint, color the floral stencils or cut-out stickers and stamp them on a large sheet or a mural such as their bedroom wall. You can also place a kitchen strainer or basket on top of the sheet and spray over it for a gradient color effect. Next, label the flowers and retain the sheet for further learning. This is an ideal way to indulge children in nature spray painting while also learning on the go.

7. Sheet spray painting

When it comes to outdoor projects, nothing beats sheet spray painting. For this, you will need a used sheet or curtain, food-coloring or washable paint, a kids’ spray bottle, and pegs. Fill the bottle with the paint, peg the sheet on washing lines or a rope, and let your children spray away to glory! This is a great activity to keep your kids engaged without getting the entire house into a mess. Once done, wash the sheet gently. You may also add glitter paint for some extra shine.

Point to consider

Paint fumes and components’ respiratory and developmental effects are more likely to affect children and infants. So ask the children to wear paint respirator masks during painting and restoration operations.

8. Splatter spray painting

Spray painting art for kids is all about having some fun! And a great way to do that is with splatter spray. Stock up on chalkboard paint or some form of chalky paint and sheets of paper, and get ready to splatter. Randomly spill paint over the chosen canvas to create different patterns. This is a great way to teach spray painting art tips to kids and give wings to their imagination and also create beautiful landscapes or sunset visuals.

Roughly create letters of the alphabet using masking tape on the sheet of paper. Fasten the tape in place. You can also use a pencil to sketch the letters. Now, spray over the tape to cover the entire piece of paper. Once the paint dries out, remove the masking tape, and you have the different letters ready!

10. Paintless spray painting

Spray painting for kids need not always be messy. You can skip the paints and have your kids enjoy just as much! Fill up a spray bottle with water and allow your child to splash and splatter everywhere– from the sidewalk to your plants, creating interesting prints. This is a fun outdoor project and will keep your child excited to paint with colors later.

Supplies

You can get inexpensive supplies that last not one art project, but many!

What you will need:

• Spray paint (White, Black, Green, Red, Blue, Yellow, Grey)

• Glossy poster board paper

• An old pot, or circular object that can be colored such as a cup, and 2 cans.

• A cardboard box or cheap plastic table cloth

Why these are needed:

• Spray paint: The best spray paint brand is Rust-Oleum, it provides quality, full cans of paint

• Glossy poster paper: This type of paper lets the paint stick extremely well, and does not get saturated easy.

• A trash bag: A trash bag is an unlikely tool, but gives texture when pressed on paint!

• Card-stock: Card-stock is saturation resistant, and you can print silhouettes on it, cut them out, and spray their shapes on the painting.

• 1 pot and 2 Cans: Many awesome paintings have circular objects, and an old pot and cans are not only free, but works great.

• A box or plastic table cloth: To protect what you are spray painting on, both can be used as a surface protector.

Where to get these things:

• Spray paint: Lowes, Home Depot, Hardware stores, and Amazon all carry Rust-Oleum.

• Glossy poster board paper: These can be found in craft stores, but are readily available on Amazon under the search “glossy poster board for spray paint art” and they can be found in packs of 25, for around $15.

• A trash bag: Most people can find this in a cabinet, but if not, target and Walmart offer good prices.

• Card-Stock: This can be found at Craft stores, and Amazon.

• A pot and cans: If you cannot find an old pot around your house, you can use a Frisbee too, or buy a pot at Home Depot, Lowes, or Amazon.

• If you do not have a cardboard (big) box you can flatten and use, get a cheap plastic table cloth at the Dollar Tree, Walmart, Amazon, or Target. You can also look under the birthday section to find this.

Step 1: Forming Planets

Now all the supplies are all gathered, you can begin! In this painting, we will be making planets, stars, and a comet! We will start by making planets. The process of making the planets is simple, in the spot you want the planet, spray paint an area that has to cover the circular object you chose (such as a can). You do not have to make it circular, because we only shape the planet after we give it it’s color! You can mix colors to make unique planets!

What to do:

1. Shake your spray bottles.

2. Spray in two different spots of the paper (so the paint doesn’t touch each other). You can make your planet color a mix or plain, it’s up to you!

Warning Tip: Do not spray too close to the paper, or it will drench, and curl your painting. A good distance is 1-1.5 feet away with the paint nozzle full pushed down.

spray paint project #3

spray paint your signs and decor pieces

5 super easy spray paint projects that will transform the look of your house on a budget.

lately, instead of buying new decor to style shelves or fill wall spaces, i’ve been reimagining some of my current pieces. i bet you can probably do the same at your house.

i have a small stash of decor goodies in my basement, most with the trailing thought of if only this were a different color. for example, we’ve had a black family sign since back when we lived in florida. my husband has always liked it but it did not match anything in our new house so it’s been in the basement for four years.

i recently splurged on some shelves for our bedroom, so i was determined to style them with items i already had, to justifying my purchase. i thought of the family sign, and how it would be perfect if it were a different color. i had some white and some aqua spray paint left over from another project so i took 10 minutes to spray it. the gold crate on the bottom shelf is also spray painted.

this sign you see on the shelves above was also a spray paint project. if you don’t have decor around your house to refresh, most certainly the clearance aisle at your closest hobby lobby or target does.

a couple months ago, my friend jenny and i made a date to make fun signs for our houses. i scoured the clearance aisle for existing signs i could spray paint and reword.

this i love us sign started out saying the kitchen is the heart of the home. i think it was $2.99. if you are a regular reader, you know the original quote is not so true for my house. i am the worst cook. my least favorite room is the kitchen. but i liked the shape and size of the sign. a LITTLE spray paint, paint pen, and glitter did the trick. now the quote “i love us” fits our family perfectly.

in addition, i found some other fun pieces in the clearance aisle, i’ve priced arrows like the one on the top left before and they are at least $20. and even then, they might not be the right color. this one was $6.00 and an additional percent off . i didn’t love the mirrored look and black didn’t work for what i wanted. so i spray painted it navy to match our new laundry room.

i also purchased one more square sign that day. i think it was about $2.00. i needed one more small piece for my husband’s office gallery wall . i spray painted this one black and then used paint pen to write don’t worry be happy, a song he loves to sing with the kids.

painted picture frames

all of the white frames in this gallery wall are also spray painted. just take the glass out, spray, and replace. other decor ideas for spray paint might include lamps, lamp shades, baskets, crates, mirrors, candle sticks, mason jars…the possibilities are endless.

spray paint your small tables

5 super easy spray paint projects that will transform the look of your house on a budget.

tables like this are often on clearance at places like homegoods. but sometimes they have a chip or, like this one, don’t match anything in your home. i bought this when we lived in florida, when our furniture used to be all black and distressed .

in our new house in indiana, it didn’t match anything. when i redid K’s room, i decided to spray it aqua to coordinate with her decor. now it sits in front of her window, matching just perfectly.

trays

i have recently gotten into trays. i am always on the hunt for a new one to help corral decor .

this tray was perfect for the halloween season. my mother-in-law gave it to us. i liked it for halloween but wished i could use it all year. i decided to spray it white. i added some gold feathers to make it more fun! now i can use it from season to season. that’s what i love about trays. they can easily move from room to room to switch up the decor every now and then.

5 super easy spray paint projects that will transform the look of your house on a budget.

i forgot to take a before pic, but this pink tray used to be covered with fat LITTLE chefs in a red and white checkered pattern. i got it on clearance at homegoods. homegoods ALWAYS has clearance trays. i spray painted this one pink for K’s room, easily covering up the old design. when she had a fish, it was perfect for that. now that our fish are in toilet bowl heaven, it is on her dresser for whatever her latest collection might be. i know, having a girl, that this collecting and displaying will continue, but at least i have somewhere to put everything so it makes me a LITTLE less crazy.
