How to paint the inside of an ornament

Homemade DIY Holiday ornament tutorials and ideas.

Tutorials

In this tutorial, we will show you how to paint the inside of clear ornaments.

White is always a good paint color option because it makes the outside really pop – like these snowman faces, which you can find in the October SVG & Font Bundle.

You will apply the snowman faces to the outside of the ornament after painting the inside.

Remove the topper from the clear ornament and swirl a little bit of rubbing alcohol on the entire inside of the ornament.

Dump out the excess and let it dry completely.

Squirt about a tablespoon amount of paint on the inside of the ornament.

Begin rolling the ornament to fully coat the inside with paint.

When fully coated, invert the ornament over a plastic cup (or a medicine bottle for smaller ornaments) to let the excess drain.

Let the paint fully dry for 24 – 48 hours (more if you used more paint).

Carefully reinsert the ornament hanger.

Apply the vinyl snowman faces to the outside:

You can make your own snowman face ornaments with these designs, found in the October 2022 SVG and Font Bundle.

Well, guess what? They ARE easy! SO easy! I’ll be showing everyone how fun and easy these are on my monthly segment on AMNW. I think Helen the host will love these! I love finding fast and easy ways to decorate my home for the holidays, like my glittered poinsettias.

Decorating for Christmas, I don’t swap out all my holiday decor from year to year. Of course, I pick up a few items each season, but I pretty much use the same stuff every Christmas. I like Simple DIY Christmas ideas.

Supplies Needed:

  • Clear glass ornaments – I found mine at Michaels.
  • Glitter
  • Pledge floor polish OR Glitter It (both work great, but the pledge is less expensive for group projects)
  • Small dixie cup (for drying)
  • Paper towels

Supplies Needed:

  • Clear glass ornaments
  • Acrylic paint – I like the cheaper brands for this. Also, any with a thinner consistency works better for me. Metallic paints work great. The glitter paints dried with an opaque look.
  • Small dixie cup – to set the ornament in while it drains and dries.
  • Paper Towels

paint swirl ornaments

Paint swirl ornaments are an easy Christmas craft for kids AND adults.

So my daughter spotted a box of plain, glass ornaments in our ornament bin. I tried to hide them, because our tree is already so overloaded, but she can’t be fooled. She wanted to decorate them.

I wanted to decorate them in as easy a way as possible. (It was that kind of day.)

I remember my sister-in-law made paint swirl ornaments years ago, long before the kids were even thoughts in our heads. I remember these ornaments so many years later, because mine is hanging from my tree as I type.

Turns out, swirling paint in ornaments is perfect for kids, except for the part where her paints were too thick so we had to use my craft acrylics.

The acrylics worked well, but they aren’t as washable as poster paint, so just be careful with the drips and drops on the finery.

supplies you will need:*

*Find the ornaments and paint at the craft store. For the paint, I used acrylics from the craft store, as the consistency was just right.

What to do:

Take the top off of the ornament. Squirt a couple colors of paint inside and swirl away.

I only added about a teaspoon each at first, and then added more paint as needed.

Overturn the ornaments to remove excess paint. Resting on an empty egg carton works well for this.

Let the ornaments dry.

Replace the top and add yarn, ribbon or a hook to hang.
