Who are Golden Artist Colors?

Golden Artist Colors was founded in June of 1980 by Sam Golden in New Berlin, New York. Sam, then aged 67, began making paints for artists in a renovated barn, using his expertise gained while working at Bocour Artist Colors. Sam Golden described the business as ‘making tools for artists’, and professional artists were the first loyal users.

The company saw growth and expansion until 2002, when the employees of the company became majority owners. The paints are still made on the same site in New Berlin today, but the products now have global distribution and cover a whole range of mediums.

Golden SoFlat Matte Acrylics offer super-saturated, highly opaque, and absolutely matte color right out of the jar. The paint has a flowing consistency between fluid and soft body that relaxes after being brushed out, making it easier to minimize the appearance of brushstrokes for uninterrupted fields of rich matte color. This allows the depth and intensity of each color to take center stage.

The advantages of SoFlat are extended by its compatibility with other acrylic paints and mediums, increasing the range of creative effects that can be achieved. Keep in mind that the matte finish may be compromised when used with glossier acrylic mediums and paints.

While SoFlat’s flowing consistency and excellent coverage with fewer strokes make it ideal for painting large areas, it’s also great for detail work. Best results are achieved with a soft synthetic flat brush over a smooth substrate for a uniform, matte finish. SoFlat can be brushed, spray applied, used in refillable markers, and more. It also photographs beautifully due to the glare-free surface.
