You may have a specific theme in mind, but you could just let your creativity take over as you finish the design. What sort of design would you like to create?

How To Draw A Surfboard Step By Step

how to draw a surfboard step by step

Summer time always makes me excited. It reminds of the fun days to be had at the beach and of exciting moments to be had playing in the water.

And for some reason, I always love to plan and create a bucket list but one which has a drawing for each thing I would like to do.

One of those items on the list is learning how to surf but I also wanted to create my own personal custom surfboard design.

Which got me to creating this surfboard drawing.

Luckily for you, I’ve created a step by step process of how to draw a surfboard from start to finish with a custom design on it so that you too can draw one for yourself.

Reference

Surfboard drawing reference

In case you need an idea of how to go about drawing a surfboard, I have included this reference which you can use to figure out how you want your skate board to look.

As we can see from this picture, a surfboard has quite a long body but majority of them are more pointed at the top and rounded at the bottom.

You will also find designs where the surfboard is more straight towards the end or funky designs like the green one with a tail.

If you would like to customise your drawing, feel free to change anything at the end.

Steps For Drawing A Surfboard

Step 1

Step 1

Begin your sketch by drawing an upside down V shape like this. You can make it more curved rather than a straight V.

Step 2

Step 2

Extend those lines coming down but be sure to make them more curved outwards and narrow the lines the further they go down.

Step 3

Join these two lines together by drawing a horizontal line as I have done here. The basic shape of a surfboard drawing is now complete.

Step 4

Now comes the fun part. Designing and customising your surfboard drawing.

You can choose to leave it plain if you want but to make this drawing more interesting, I added a cool wave design.

To follow my drawing, you will want to draw wavy lines to create the waves. Then draw two lines that curve across the board. Repeat this step to draw the second set.

Step 5

Once you have colored in your drawing, it should look something like this. I had decided to color my surfboard in a bright orange shade and blue waves but you can choose whatever you like.

How to Draw A Surfboard – Let’s Get Started!

Surfboards have a sleek and thin design, and this helps them to glide through the water and maintain speed and stability.

Surfboards can come in varied shapes, and each one has pros and cons depending on what the rider is looking for.

The surfboard that we will be designing in this guide on how to draw a surfboard will be long and quite thin, but later on you can also change the shape a bit if you wish!

For now, we will be starting really simply. We will be drawing a single, thick line that curved ever so slightly until the end on the right, where it will curve slightly more sharply.

That’s all there is to it for this step! When you’re ready to move on we shall go ahead to step 2.

Step 2 – Next, draw the rest of the surfboard outline

Now that you have the first line for your surfboard drawing, we can finish off the outline in this next step. To do this, first add a short diagonal line onto the bottom of the line that you just drew.

Then, you can extend another long line up from that, and it will curve similarly to how the first one did until it meets the top of that line at a sharp point.

Then, we will draw another line along the right-hand edge of the board to give it a look of thickness.

Step 3 – Draw the fin for the board

Surfboards will usually have some fins at the base which are also sometimes called skegs. These fins are used to provide more accurate stability and direction control.

We will be drawing the fin for this board in this step of our guide on how to draw a surfboard.

This should be rather easy for you to do, as all you need to do is draw two curved lines at the base of the board that meets to make a little sharp point. Then you’ll be ready to move on to step 4!
