Earth Day! How to draw a pine tree + Hahnemühle sketchbook mini review

Making trees look realistic is one of the biggest frustration among those in my drawing classes, so I hope this little video demo helps!

Supplies for this project are linked at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.

While this demo is in fountain pen, I think it illustrates the idea well for Copic and pencil artists too – making trees “imperfect” and varying branches so they look natural!

Video

In the first 3 minutes I quickly talk about a few of my fountain pen sketchbooks – then the demo will start. Watch the video below or click HERE to see it on YouTube.

The Hahnemühle Lettering pads of bright white paper I’ve been drawing on for a while are excellent and come in a variety of sizes; I LOVE how smoothly my pen glides over the surface!

The Hahnemühle Nostaligie Book is on heavier paper, 90lb, and it can handle light washes from time to time – a nice option to have in a pad! As with all these sketchbooks it lies flat – though keeping a clip or a band handy may help to hold down a loose-flying page.

I picked up the large Hahnemühle Grey Book – a good size option!

The Rainbow journal by Shizen Design has paper that’s nice and smooth – but its thin like the Grey and Capuccino books, so it can’t handle super heavy inking. But oh what fun it is to have a rainbow!

Step 2.

You will now start sketching out the right side of the pine tree with the branches and leaves being rough, prickly, and firm. Once the left side is drawn you can move to the next drawing step to see what you will need to do next.

Step 3.

This is your last drawing step and all you have to do is sketch out the right side of the pine tree and then sketch out the shape of the tree trunk. Once that is done you will add some minor detailing, and then start erasing all the guidelines and sh apes that you drew in step one. more

Step 4.

Here is what your nicely drawn pine tree comes out like when you have learned how to draw a pine tree step by step”. Color it in, decorate it, or do what ever you please. You are officially all done.

Description: Well, Sasuke Shippuden was a really awesome lesson that I submitted today, and it is probably going to be the best one that will be going up. I wanted to do another tutorial on a plant and or tree, so I what I did was make a lesson that will show you “how to draw a pine tree step by step“. Pine trees are probably one of the best smelling trees in existence. During the winter months when the first real snow falls, pine trees have this incredibly strong scent that can be smelt from a mile away. The pine tree is one of the most popular trees in existence. They are planted because of their ornamental appeal and because they provide a series of personal attributes. For one they prove to be the best type of tree to be planted for privacy. Their amazing majestic size makes the pine tree something to awe at. I love pine trees and I have grown up with living around them all my life. We who celebrate Christmas with trees, also enjoy having these lush green plants in our homes for a month or so. I love decorating my pine tree, which also happens to be the Christmas tree, and when the season is over, we sometimes try and replant the tree into the earth. Teaching yourself “how to draw a pine tree” is always fun because you can be as creative as you want with no restrictions. Have fun guys and remember, drawing is a fun activity, but it also makes an even a better dream.
