Easy flower to draw for beginners

You may also want to have some colored pencils, paints or markers if you want to add some color.

Easy Flowers To Draw

I am continuously on the lookout for easy flowers to draw which I love adding to my sketchbook.

Simple outlines like this are terrific for a few reasons:

  • copying purposes (practice)
  • stimulating your creativity
  • elaboration to create an original piece
  • groundwork for using color

Outline Flowers

Lightly sketch the flower first before you start putting pressure on your pencil. In most cases, you won’t need to erase your light guidelines because you can draw right over the top of them.

Another thing to keep in mind when drawing flowers, is to compare the size of a leaf to the size of the blossom. Do this mental measurement and you automatically keep them in proportion to each other when you sketch.

Simple Guidance

I use the blocking method when there are too many flowers and leaves for me to sketch without assistance, and it really saves me from getting confused! However, these were really easy flowers to draw and I simply used light guidelines to construct the drawing.

My Book On Kindle

Tulips in pencil

There is a fantastic e-book called Drawing Outlines that is available now (for a very low price) and it sets you up perfectly for any drawing project.

Depending on the complexity of your chosen flower, you might like to practice drawing the flower on its own prior to completing a more finished piece including stem and leaves.

If copying from a real flower, remove a petal and draw it separately.

Next, observe how the flower joins with the stem and the way the bud opens to reveal the flower. Draw this small portion and discover that you become more inspired by these kinds of interesting little study sessions.

Flower Portion

That’s why I like doing small pieces like this one on the right …

For pencils, I mainly used a 2B mechanical pencil, they are particularly great creating for fine strokes.

My favorite drawing erasers are white plastic and kneaded.

These easy flowers to draw were created on plain old photocopy paper because I like the durable, smooth surface.

I make my own sketchbooks with photocopy paper — — instructions are included as a bonus when you purchase the How To Sketch Guide.

You also receive a cute step by step drawing book; a list of my favorite drawing tips plus numerous illustrations for copy and study purposes.

Start With Easy Flowers To Draw

This is a rough sketch that was created on the spur of the moment. I left all of my guidelines in because I like seeing the workings of the piece.

Easy sketch flowers

It doesn’t matter if your drawings don’t appeal to everyone, that is quite normal and natural. Differences make the world a more interesting place.

I found these easy flowers to draw in some great free ebooks which are filled to the brim with wonderful outline drawings. Unfortunately, they have been removed from the website where I found them so I can’t provide the link anymore, my apologies for that.

Some of my drawings here were copied from those online books.

Easy Flower Drawing

Anyway, there’s no point in reading about drawing if you don’t have your pencil at the ready.

Creating basic illustrations like this boost your confidence and soon you will want to move on to more complex art studies to further your skills.

Step 1 – Draw the Center of the Flower

Flower center drawing

Begin by drawing the center of the flower. You can see in the above example that it’s pretty much a bunch of little curves that come together to create a circle.

To make things easier you can first draw a very light circle (does not need to be perfect) to act as a guide and then draw the little bumps/curves around it.

Step 2 – Draw the First Petals

Flower petal drawing

In total the flower will have five petals each roughly the same in size and shape. Try and size these so they fit nicely around the center in a way where none ares too “squashed together” and where there are no gaps between them.

Add the first petal as shown in the example. Make it wider as it goes away from the center of the flower transitioning into a nice and smooth curve on the end.

Step 3 – Add More Petals

Add two more petals shaped similar to the first one. As already mentioned try and keep these similar in shape and size to the first one.
