I was born in a small town in the Kirov region in Russia. Now I live in the Moscow region. Since childhood, I have been good at drawing, but my dream of painting came true only in my mature years. I’ve been doing this for over 20 years.

I graduated from aviation technical school. At work, I had to move a lot, and this is what influenced my desire to travel. On every trip, my favorite places were museums, galleries, where the works of great artists made an indelible impression on me. I remembered my favorite works or fragments from pictures, and I was surprised at the skill, the ability to accurately convey the depicted object. I especially liked the detailed and symbolic Dutch still lifes, which influenced me and left their mark on my paintings.

At first, painting was just a hobby. Now, this is my only occupation. I paint with oil paints using a multi-layered technique in the style of realism. I tried different directions, stopped at still lifes and flowers. The artistic composition of still lifes, beautifully composed, easily falls on the canvas. The flower should delight, create a mood, and the fruit asks for a mouthful. I want each of my pictures to evoke a storm of emotions in the soul of the viewer, create a good mood, evoke pleasant memories. My paintings are in private collections in Russia and America.

I have always been fascinated by the beauty of the wild nature of the surrounding world, its diversity in all its manifestations. Being in the forest, in the park, on the river, I rest with my soul and observe. Therefore, my paintings are about nature, flowers, and plants in various states.
Each season has its charm. And the theme of still lifes and flowers changes with the seasons. Accurate and detailed elaboration of each fragment of the painting brings me closer to hyperrealism, allowing me to capture the objects of the image vividly and vividly with the smallest details. In my paintings, I use traditional multi-layered techniques. In my opinion, this is the best way to create the three-dimensionality of the depicted objects and the play of light and shade in inanimate and animate nature.
Each painting is a reflection of my inner state at that moment, which I want to convey to my viewer. Joy, a feeling of delight, the desire to possess a painting that will be passed down from generation to generation, this is a real reward for me.

about this painting:

Birch Forest

Autumn is certainly a wonderful time of the year because nature gives us extraordinary beauty. Perhaps the most beautiful place in the fall is forest. It is here you can meet the largest number of bright autumn colors. It is such a forest landscape that the artist Leonid Afremov depicted in his painting. But there are different forests – aspen, pine, and, of course, birch forest. For many of us, they are associated with Russia – the birch is a symbol, albeit unofficial, of this country. Maybe you know some Russian folk songs about birches. This tree is literally light – an even white trunk is sometimes decorated with black spots of various shapes and sizes. Such a pattern makes a birch a very beautiful tree. Birch can be compared to a girl with a thin waist. It is associated with femininity and beauty. It is especially beautiful in the fall, when small leaves are covered with yellowness. Looking at this painting with birch forest by Leonid Afremov, we literally hear the birds singing and the light rustling of leaves. Such sounds we can hear in the autumn forest. Here in the yellowed leaves you can find many pleasant surprises – fall is the most fertile season – it is in the fall that inveterate foresters and mushroom pickers go to the forest for mushrooms and berries.

We have already said that birch is associated with Russia. This tree really symbolizes the Russian spirit, but it is revered not only by Russians – this tree occupies a special place in the culture of many Slavic peoples. Ancient people were prone to deify this tree. They created special groves where only the elite were allowed. Violation of the ban entailed rather strict punishment, right up to the death penalty. It was believed that violation of the ban may entail various consequences such as death of livestock, crop failure and others. The ancient Slavs believed that birch groves protect them from

– various natural disasters.

By the way, some linguists think that the name of the tree originated from an ancient verb with the meaning “to protect”. The name of the tree is also hidden in many names of geographical objectsmountains, lakes, rivers, towns, villages, etc.

Enjoy the stunning painting by Leonid Afremov depicting the Russian birch forest and conveying the Russian spirit!
