Pumpkin colored like candy corn

Sometimes during nap-time I feel a little crafty and this project is from one of those times! Don’t stress about carving pumpkins this year, paint them! And using our favorite nostalgic Halloween candy, go candy corn themed like me! This would be a great craft to do with or without kids (depending on how old they are) and can take as long or as short of time as you would like! My husband always makes fun of my shorter attention span when it comes to crafts – I am an enneagram 7, what else do you expect?! I know my little sister would spend hours painting pumpkins with intricate designs, but if you are more like me, you can create a fun candy corn inspired pumpkin in less than 30 minutes and have fun while doing it!

Once the calendar hits September, I am in full out holiday mode the rest of the year. While I love each season, Autumn gives me a boost of excitement that carries on throughout the year. We joke that January is one of our least favorite months but now we have a baby girl coming that month to continue the celebrating (I LOVE birthdays!)

Starting off the holiday season is Halloween and what would Halloween be without Brach’s Candy Corn! I saw them out on the shelves at Target and had to add them to my cart. In all seriousness, I have never celebrated this holiday without buying at least one bag of Brach’s Candy Corn (but probably more!) While the Pumpkins are my favorite, the classic is so nostalgic, and the Autumn Mix makes my candy bowl look good because of the variety!

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Pumpkins (can be real or fake!)
  • Paint (go with acrylic or tempera) in Yellow, White, and Orange.
  • Brushes
  • Brach’s Candy Corn (to be your guide!)
  • Tape

*Tip: The pumpkins and candy corn can be found in the holiday section at Target. The paint, brushes, and tape can be found in the art/office area!

HOW TO:

  1. Gather up all the supplies.
  2. Eat some Candy Corn for inspiration
  3. Using the tape, tape off a section of the pumpkin making sure to get the tape into all the groves. Remember white is on top, orange in the middle, and yellow on the bottom. So if you are starting with an orange pumpkin, plan to use the yellow and white paint on top and bottom. If you are using a white pumpkin (like me) than tape off an area for the orange and then add the yellow.
  4. Put aside to dry.
  5. Have fun! I used the paints to add some other designs that were candy corn inspired to go with my candy corn pumpkin! I like a little variety.

*Tip: If you want to make polka dots like I did, use a cotton swab to make the dots! It is SO easy that way!

Have you ever forgone carving for painting your pumpkins? It’s really fun and just as festive without being so hard. I still may make Bruce carve a pumpkin for us this year but I am not into stabbing thick pumpkins with knives in an attempt to create something pretty! lol. This is festive while being super attainable. And of course, you cannot have Halloween without the candy corn! #momentmade, #madetoshare #breakoutthebrachs

Painted Candy Corn Pumpkins for Halloween

This post was sponsored by Elmers. All creations and ideas are 100% mine!

Kate and I have been busy bees over here painting pumpkins. it’s one of our favorite things to do every fall, and this year we are doing it just a bit differently! I recently saw some cute little Painted Candy Corn Pumpkins at a store and wanted to paint some of my own. So, I grabbed a couple of little white pumpkins and painted them to look like my favorite Halloween candy!

White-pumpkins

I started with two small white pumpkins. one short and chubby little pumpkin and one tall and skinny one.

Paint Markers

Then I grabbed my Elmer’s paint markers. These are the most fun to work with! They are paint in markers. no brush required! You simply press down on the tips until the paint comes to the end and then use them just as you would a marker. They were a HUGE hit at our pumpkin painting party, and are now a favorite of mine and Kate!

Easy painted candy corn pumpkins

I just drew a yellow line around the bottom and filled the space in with yellow. Then I made my orange stripe around the middle and filled it in.

Aren’t they just the cutest little pumpkins you have ever seen? They definitely make me want to eat a handful of candy corns 😉

Watermelon Pumpkin

Kate made this cute little Watermelon Pumpkin with hers. how stinkin’ cute is that.

I can’t wait to paint more pumpkins.

Candy Corn Painted Pumpkin

Easy candy corn pumpkin you can paint to decorate your front porch for fall or Halloween.

I saw a photo of a pumpkin painted to look like a big candy corn on Pinterest a couple of years ago and really wanted to give this cute candy corn painted pumpkin a try. I even bought the paint but never got around to doing it.

Last year I decided to try it for myself and was really excited with how it turned out. Painting pumpkins is a great, easy way to decorate them and they will last a lot longer than if you carve them.

This project only takes about 30 minutes to complete, depending on how long it takes for the paint to dry.

Supplies Needed:

  • Tall pumpkin
  • Yellow spray paint
  • White spray paint
  • Masking tape
  • Newspaper

Choose a day that is not windy or raining so you can paint outside. Set out some newspaper and place your clean pumpkin on the newspaper. I had quite a bit of dirt to wipe off of mine.

Use the masking tape to mark where you want the lines for your candy corn. Place one piece of tape marking the top third of the pumpkin, and another piece marking the bottom third.

Wrap the tape around the entire pumpkin. I didn’t measure anything. I just placed the tape where it looked good. It doesn’t have to be straight.

The important thing about putting on the masking tape is to keep in mind that you need to press down the tape as close to the pumpkin as you can get so that paint doesn’t drip down under the tape. Press it down really well.

Shake up the spray paint really well and paint the top third of the pumpkin white. Paint the bottom third of the pumpkin yellow. Let the first coat dry and then apply a second coat if necessary.

Let the paint dry and then remove the masking tape. You should be able to wipe any excess paint off with a damp towel, it just takes a little bit of rubbing.

That’s it! Enjoy your candy corn pumpkin this Halloween.

What a simple but fun way to do pumpkins! Much easier than carving them, that’s for sure. It’s just a shame they don’t have triangular pumpkins, since they’d look much more like candy corn that way… lol.
