Odd, Top-Down Generic Flowers

I’m not quite sure why the publisher states these are calming flowers when the images are so generic that I don’t find them particularly calming at all. The flowers struck me as odd, not remotely realistic of most flowers and leaves I’ve seen. Instead of showing flowers from the side, as is typically done in coloring books featuring flowers, these are shown as if they are placed on a flat table, and the camera is pointing down directly looking at the top of them for the shot. It’s a distancing viewpoint that in no way evokes the beauty of flowers. I also like it in flower coloring books if you can distinctly tell what the flower is from looking at the image. These images to draw are far too generically to look like a specific flower. Even though leaves are shown on each page, they are the exact same types of leaves on every page, from standard veined ones that you would see more like on a tree leaf to oddly loopy ones that I don’t think I’ve ever seen as a leaf of a flower. Just as a flower is distinct, many of them have very distinctive leaves, and it would have been nice if this book reflected specific flowers and their leaves rather than just these generic, top-down versions. If you enjoy flower coloring books as I do, I suggest looking at any sample images that might be on this book’s bookseller webpage to see if the flowers as depicted in this coloring book have any interest to you.

I received a free copy of this coloring book, but that did not affect my review.
