87 Easy Christmas Craft Ideas to Make Your Home Merry and Bright

Christmas Crafts

Deck the halls with cute, colorful, and handmade Christmas decor! These festive DIY Christmas crafts include ideas for pretty Christmas wreaths, DIY Christmas ornaments, and a plethora of other Christmas decorations that are sure to fill your home with cheer. From adorable, stockings made using old Christmas sweaters, classic salt dough ornaments you can make with the kids, to a load of ideas using vintage Shiny Brite ornaments there’s something here for every crafter, regardless of their level of experience (or attention span). Many of these easy Christmas crafts are pretty enough to give as gifts to someone in your family or even your best friend or coworker, and all are beautiful enough to proudly display on your mantel, front door, or holiday table.

Of course, as with any craft project, it’s not all about the end result—nor are the best Christmas craft ideas the ones that yield the most beautiful, over-the-top finished projects. Instead, why not focus on the experience of crafting, and on sharing that experience with your friends, family, and little ones. After all, it really is the thought that counts, right? When the tinsel’s been taken down and the Christmas tree’s put away, your kids may not remember the exact number of stitches you added to each of their crochet Christmas stockings—but they’ll remember you sitting down to your sewing machine to make them something special by hand. Want to do a project with the kiddo, then check out our best Christmas crafts for kids.

Bingo Trees

christmas trees made from bingo card set in wooden spools on a mantel

Made with colorful vintage bingo cards, these trees will look great scattered on the mantel or holiday table.

To make:
Cut three to five half-tree-shaped pieces from matching bingo cards (with one edge flat and the other jagged). Hot-glue the flat edges to a 3/8-inch dowel, fanning them out to create a 3D tree shape. Finish with a bingo tile topper using hot-glue. Place dowels in tall wooden spools for easy display.

Baseball Mason Jar

For the baseball lover in your life, set out a Mason jar decorated to look like a baseball, with a bat tag, filled with sweet popcorn. They can snack all season long.

To make: Paint the outside of a Mason jar with flat white craft paint. Once dry use a fine grit sandpaper to gently scuff up the paint. Use a fine-tipped paint brush and red craft paint to paint on the stiches of the baseball. Use brown spray paint to paint the metal lid and band of the jar; allow to dry completely. Cut a baseball bat from a piece of brown craft paper and use markers to add details, such as wood grain. Punch a tiny hole in one end of the bat and attach to the jar with a piece of baker’s twine. Fill jar with Cracker Jack and attach lid.

Sprig and Twig Display

twig holiday decorations

Put Christmas tree sprigs and other greenery bits to use on a mantel, sideboard or shelf as birch “trees.”

Using a bit that matches the stem’s diameter, drill holes 1/2 inch or so into birch discs (available at crafts stores). Insert clippings. If needed, apply a dab of glue around stems to secure. Then arrange the trees on a tray or pedestal and add candles. Turn extra pine sprigs into boho tassels by inserting them (with lower needles removed) about ½ inch into frayed rope ends, wrapping embroidery thread tightly around the end to keep them in place. For a mottled effect, float (not submerge) a loose ball of cotton rope in fabric dye for 24 hours.
