Art and wine at-home session

Choose the right location in your apartment or house for a wine tasting evening. This could be a wine cellar with space for guests or part of your living or dining room, especially when kitted out with Architecture Intérieure du Vin’s furniture solutions. Simply decorate your space, set the table, prepare your bottles and tools, and wait for your guests to arrive…

How to Organise a Wine Tasting Evening at Home

Do you friends love wine? Have you invited a group of connoisseurs over for an evening of wine tasting? Do you want to offer your oenophile guests a fun and delicious experience? Read this guide to find out how to prepare and organise a wine tasting evening. L’Atelier du Vin, wine accessory manufacturers since 1926, has designed all the tools you need to enjoy and enhance your tasting sessions.

Choose a Theme for Your Wine Tasting Evening

Wine tasting evenings can take on several forms. An introduction to oenology, a wine quiz, a specific theme for connoisseurs… It all depends on what you want and your guests’ wine knowledge. So, what’s the right theme for your tasting session? Here are a few examples to inspire you.

An Introduction to Wine Tasting

This simple and efficient theme is perfect for curious neophytes interested in learning about wine tasting. Enjoy good company and fine wine while practicing the right gestures and discovering how to use your senses to analyse wine based on its appearance, scent and taste.

Recognising Grape Varieties and Wine Aromas

Syrah, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Chardonnay, Riesling… Each grape variety has its own personality. Depending on your tastes, as well as those of your guests, you could organise a wine tasting evening around a specific grape variety or aromatic family. Open several bottles of red, white and rosé to see how the same variety can taste different depending on the terroir, or to better understand its olfactory and gustatory profile (strength of tannins, fruity taste, floral notes, mineral freshness, acidity, roundness, persistence, etc.).

Exploring a Regional Vineyard

Burgundy grands crus classés, rare Bordeaux wines, Rhône Valley AOCs, Champagne vintages, promising Languedoc Roussillon wineries… Taste wines from different regions and finetune your knowledge. Add a gourmet touch to discover the right pairings between wine and food and enhance the taste of your dishes.

Blind Wine Tasting

A blind wine tasting party is always full of surprises! Hide each bottle with a sleeve and see if your guests can recognise its vineyard, year and grape variety. Remove the sleeve to reveal the label and check your tasting sheets to find out which of your guests is a true connoisseur and who still has lots to learn! Perfect for budding wine merchants and competitive oenophiles.

Wine and Champagne Quiz Nights!

Wine quiz evenings are easy to organise with our now famous Wine Quiz and Champagne Quiz, which combine fun and play with the pleasure of enjoying fine wine with friends. Which of these 3 wineries produces Burgundy wine? Which is the most visited wine route in France? When did the first forms of viticulture appear? Take a sip or refill your glass after every correct answer!

An Oenology Session Hosted by a Professional

Why not host an oenology class at home? Delight your connoisseur friends by inviting a professional sommelier, wine merchant or oenologist to guide your tasting session and reveal all the best-kept secrets in wine tasting, with a glass in hand.

Select Your Wine and Accompaniments

Choosing the right red, white or rosé wine is key to a great tasting session. Now that you’ve set a theme for your party, you need to select your wine. Each bottle should be carefully chosen for your event. Feel free to ask your local wine merchant for advice if you’re not an expert. He or she will help you pick out the best bottles of still and sparkling wine for all your tasting sessions. Then think about what food to serve to enhance the taste of your wine. Charcuterie, cheese, dishes that match your wine list… Create your own tailor-made menu!

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE REGISTERING

The main idea behind AARTWERK WINE & ART is ART AS FUN, the idea that all human lives should be infused with a dose of creativity, enriching our experience and liberating us from the tedious workload of everyday life…oh, the load we must all bear! This is why we decided to make a creative PLAYGROUND: a place to relax and forget, for at least a while, the concerns and constraints of our professional lives. Yes, you got it! We expect to have fun with you, not just teach you!

Learn a little unserious something, while having serious FUN! Come and sink yourself into a fun project and a glass of wine in the cozy and casual environment. Paint, sip, chat, sing, stretch when you need to, and maybe even throw a few darts….Yes, we have a dart-board!

About events: Most of our events are 2-3.5 hours, depending on the complexity of the project. Projects are designed for ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS. Please do not worry at all: you will be in the hands of a professional, who will guide you step by step and always give you a hand if ever needed.

Arrivals: Please come 10-15 minutes before the start time of the event so you can hang your hat, boots, and pistols, pour yourself a much deserved drink and start sipping. (Ok, for the record: no firearms…really!). Events will always start on time, so you want to make yourself at home before that.

What to bring and what to wear: We provide all the necessary supplies! Bring yourself, your beverage, and, preferably, a NOT particularly nice shirt. We have aprons, but accidental splashes do occur.

Wine and Beer: While you may attend our adult classes regardless of age (although those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult), TO CONSUME ALCHOHOL YOU MUST BE 21. Please have your ID with you. BYOB.

Groups: If you are coming as a group but registering separately, shoot us an email and we will do whatever we can to accommodate your sitting together.

Cancellations: You may cancel your reservation up to 48 hours prior to the start time of your event. You may choose to be fully refunded or to attend another event of the same value.

Exceptions for special cases: If you are prevented from attending an event for which you registered because of serious illness or an emergency, we will try to accommodate you by giving you AARTWERK credit. However, please do not call and say that you are in the hospital, if you are not. Not cool! Overcome your hangover and make the day worth something!

If you purchased through Coursehorse, then our Refund & Cancellation policy applies to your purchase. If you are entitled to a refund, or have any questions, please contact Coursehorse here.

PAINT THIS!

Welcome to our main painting gallery.
All of our projects are designed for beginners, so relax and pick the one you like the most without fear.

As the idea is to have fun, we will not be overly enthusiastic about communicating the complexities of the trade. We’ll be content with teaching you the basics and, of course, some tricks—just enough to make you a fun-art-crackerjack!

Note that the complexity of the paintings varies. We encourage improvisation, but we also provide the means for setting up the composition for more intricate paintings. This will allow you to dive directly into the joys of color. Each painting employs certain techniques; however, these are adjusted for beginners and the amount of time we have to complete the work. Depending on the project, you may be introduced to the following: color mixing, wash, block out painting, layering, glazing, impasto, dry brushing, palette knife, and more.

PICNIC DRAWING

Bring a blanket and a picnic basket.
Spice it up with art.
It’s the recipe for a perfect day!

This is an introductory drawing class. You will learn the basics of: ways to use charcoal, line, tone, composition, aerial perspective, ways to draw leaves, and more. We will start off with a couple of exercises and sketches before plunging into our final drawings. The instructor will provide additional assistance by directing and encouraging your personal sensibility. You might think you do not have one, but you most certainly do. Make sure you have some wet wipes in your basket: charcoal is messy but fun!

No alcohol. It is the law. (Don’t you just miss the old days when you could freely have a Mimosa in the sunlight?)

THE NUDE DUDE

Dudes in the buff,
bachelorettes with a brush.
It doesn’t get much better than this!

Do you really have to have previous training to make an accurate representation of a human model?
Yes. Probably.

Nonetheless, can’t you just have a good time feeling like a Renaissance apprentice ahead of her time, making art closer to that of Picasso than that of Michelangelo? For bachelorettes, anyone who wants to learn the basic rules of figure drawing, or a group of art school peers organizing a relaxed, private figure drawing session.

We will begin our class with an introduction to the proportion of the human body, and, unless your fellowship consists of experienced artists, we will stick to simple standing poses. We will concentrate on capturing the model’s gesture, before developing your drawings or paintings in the desired direction.

POP ART SELFIE

Paint yourself!
This project is so cool, that it is too cool to say anything but cool.
Cool?

We will need two things from you:
~ a good resolution photo with clear contrast
(your features need to be visible)
~ your favorite color(s)—1 or 2 shall suffice!

HONEY. I CAN’T HOLD MY LIQUOR

Night of abstract expressionism!

Our evening will start with a short lecture about Abstract Expressionism and some of its giants, namely de Kooning, Pollock and Rothko. You will use their work as a springboard for determining, according to your own taste, the direction you would like for your work to go. As the main idea behind the movement was spontaneous and automatic creation, we’ll quickly dive into the whole-body-engaging painting process. We will work around our canvases on both the easel and the floor. In addition to all the necessary supplies, we will provide you with a coverall. Still, do not come in a silk shirt or your best shoes.

Please note that you might have to leave your painting overnight to dry. All artworks must be picked up within 48 hours!

As the process of this project requires more space per person, the number of attendees is limited to 10.

“Dripping paints, dripping wine,
Yet you are an artist, not a swine.”
Virgil, Letters to the Artist of the Future 2.35.1

PEARLS OF VENICE

Taste of Commedia dell’arte at Aartwerk Studio!
Enter the dreamy world of pearls and masks of Venice.

After a short introduction to the history of the Venetian Mask, we will begin by making a sketch defining the main character traits and colors of our Volto (Larva) or Bauta. We will be using puff paint, acrylic paint, fabric, lace, glitter, feathers, beads, glue and paper to bring our characters to life! We have some tricks up our sleeves to teach you, but let’s leave them for class.

Please note that you might have to leave your mask overnight to dry. All artworks must be picked up within 48h!

As individual instruction is more demanding for this project, and the process requires more space per person, the number of attendees is limited to 15.

“When a mask is the task
do not forget your flask”
Dante, From Hell to Heaven in a Few Steps 1.25.2

THE WIRE

Calder inspired wire sculptures.

Although we will provide a couple of ideas to spark your sculpture, we invite you to use these as the starting point for creating an original composition. The instructor will work with you to help develop your idea. We will then move on to the heavy labor of bending the wire with our bare hands. Nah, the wire we are using is easy to bend, though we do urge you to be careful not to pinch yourself when working with pliers. We will not go as wild as Martin Senn, David Oliveira or Barbara Licha, but we will make some pretty cool stuff. We have beads! If you are planning to embellish your sculpture, don’t forget to incorporate this in your plan.

As individual instruction is more demanding for this project, and the process requires more space per person, the number of attendees is limited to 15.

FOR ART’S SAKE

The beauty of cherry blossoms.

. we all enjoy it, but the peculiar appreciation for this phenomenon, and the most beautiful art inspired by it hails from the far east, namely Japan and China. We shall begin our class with a light talk about sakura, followed by an introduction to selected works of art from both countries.

Our project will concentrate on a single branch painting. The steps are carefully designed to stimulate absolute uniqueness of each artwork created. We will talk about the peculiarities of nature/tree drawing and composition set-up; after this we will start working on our sketch. Once satisfied with the result, we will develop the painting and adorn our branches with blossoms.

Bring sake for inspiration. Or have some tea—it’s on the house.

THE BOX

Decoupage, collage, assemblage,
painting, drawing, stenciling and stamping!
Holy smoke!

You will be decorating a wooden jewelry box with our guidance, and according to your taste. In addition to all the requisite supplies, Aartwerk Studio is providing palette suggestions, and our original designs and drawings for your perfect box!

Please note that you might have to leave your box overnight to dry. All artworks must be picked up within 48 hours!

BUTTON UP!

Painted tree, button leaves.
We are diving into into the fun world of assemblage.

Pick your color palette, grab some buttons and follow our instructor. There are beads available for the flower kick.

Please note that you might have to leave your artwork overnight to dry. All artworks must be picked up in 48h.

PAINT YOUR PET

It is as simple as that.

Send us the picture of your dearest friend. Make sure that the resolution is good, and their features are clearly visible.

The rest is on us.

BABY IN THE HOUSE…
