A pretty set of pottery inspired the painted color and simple designs on these pumpkins.
Pumpkin Painting Ideas
As October aka spooky season has arrived, I thought I’d start sharing some of the ways you can get creative in the lead up to halloween and where better to begin than with simple creative ways to decorate pumpkins from painting floral patterns, graphic designs, brush lettering and botanical motifs.
Each of these techniques could be applied onto real or ceramic pumpkins , I personally love a ceramic pumpkin because you can keep them year after year. However if you do use a real one and need to create a base colour I would suggest using a spray paint for a quick drying even coverage.
Floral Pumpkins with marker pens
Halloween isn’t just for purple and orange, explore other autumnal tones to create pastel pumpkins this year!
Head over to the Gathered Makers blog for my tutorial on painting these with a step by step guide for achieving floral patterns, hand lettering and simple graphic patterns with dual marker pens.
Botanical Painted Pumpkins
If you’re a bit of a minimalist why not try botanical painted pumpkins. Taken from my book Paint, Make, Create these painted pumpkins embrace a more pared back look with simple floral line work. You can find the full tutorial for making your own botanical painted pumpkins in the Autumn chapter of the book…

Just a bit of pattern enhances this white ‘Lumina’ pumpkin; simple black accents look great on orange pumpkins, too.
